Friday is a great day.
I spent the night on the floor at Kevin's house last night, then awoke with a spring in my step to go off to an interview at 8:30. About half way through the interview I started to get cottonmouth and realized that I shouldn't have had that last beer at 10:30 last night and should have been in bed about an hour earlier.
Ah what the hell; woulda' shoulda' coulda'.
Yesterday afternoon the gang got together to drink beer in Fairfax and ponder all of our opportunities in our glorious future. Plenty of updates on extended members of the gang and a few shared political philosophies, but mostly conversations kept coming back to our increased age and the associated wear and tear. It was really the first time we've all been together in at least three years; not an ambitious "howl at the moon" affair, but it was the sort of gathering that brings some comfort to the souls of guys who are at the great intersection of their lives.
Kevin asked me if I was glad to be back in the US, and the answer took me longer to ponder than I would have thought. The answer is yes and no, but probably mostly yes depending on the perspective. I was really enjoying Europe - the closeness and intimate feeling of everything - but it feels like the hand of divine intervention came swooping in and put us back on the Great American Conveyor Belt. There is some bigger reason why we're back, but it has not yet been made clear by the One In Charge (aka, the OIC).
Paul and Chris are looking good and I think we are all relieved that despite their legal "issues" they are still the top dogs that they have always been. Still Americans, after all.
Oh, yeah, the Interview: it went well. It lasted one hour and it covered most of my capabilities to provide Senior-Level Marketing Direction and Leadership. My resume is such a goofy looking thing right now that the only way I have a chance of getting a job is by getting in front of people and actually explaining why the hell I left Tech to go have this adventure in Eastern Europe. I actually like interviewing because it makes me feel like I am back selling; selling is one of the greatest mano-a-mano games on earth and gives me the kind of rush that (I think) gamblers must feel. Anyway, I am a marketeer these days
Anyway, the interview seemed to go well and the hiring manager said that he'd like to have me back to meet the rest of the crew, then the CEO, etc.. Only problem is that he is going on vacation for another week
OK, now it is time to get back to the job at hand: finding the right job.

We're back, BABY!
Yes, we're back in California. The Wrights have returned with all the fanfare of the Queen Mary and as much gusto as the Virgin Mary. 2 1/2 years in Prague were a load of fun, but as they start telling you when you are five years old: ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END.
I guess we expected it all to end, since we knew it would come to an end anyway, but now that it has we're all trying to say that we knew it was going to anyway. Where is the logic in this? Self defeating, but I haven't read my zen books lately so shouldn't comment on stuff I don't know anything about.
For those enquiring, we are now staying in Sacramento with Erin's parents while I hunt for a job. In some ways I love the hunt because it reminds me of the good old days when I was a salesman, but on the other hand, it reminds me of all the stuff I hated about being a sales guy: waiting for other people to make up their minds. I don't mind it really because I am learning all kinds of new things about what has been happening in California and technology over the past 2 1/2 years; everyone has a story to tell, even if they're not telling me the story I want to hear.
OK, so my plan for this blog is to keep everyone informed with our re-entry into US society after just getting used to being "Euroized". it is a good story to tell, but now I need a drink, so will resume tomorrow with a clear head.
Atomic Wedgies to One and All.
